The Essentials of Dermatopathology Online Board Review Course - Volume 2 is designed to meet the needs of persons actively engaged in dermatopathology training and those who are already board certified and/or currently practicing dermatopathology may benefit from this as a refresher course.


Course Outline

Participants will first be presented with a pre-test consisting of 20 questions to assess pre-existing knowledge of dermatopathology. After completion of the pre-test, participants will have access to 28 recorded sessions on a variety of topics related to dermatopathology. At the conclusion of the course, participants will take a post-course self-assessment consisting of 100 questions derived from the topics presented in the recorded lectures. Participants must successfully complete the post-course online self-assessment in order to claim CME credit for this activity.

CME Information

The American Society of Dermatopathology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The American Society of Dermatopathology designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 17 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Participants must complete the post-course online self-assessment with a score of 75 percent or better in order to claim CME credit.

Important:

  • If you attended and claimed CME credit for the 6th Annual ASDP Essentials of Dermatopathology Board Review & MOC Course in 2019, you will be unable to claim credit for this online course. The material presented is repeated content from the 2019 in-person meeting. 
  • If you attended and claimed CME credit for the 5th Annual ASDP Essentials of Dermatopathology Board Review and MOC Course in 2018, you may only claim partial CME credit. A portion of the materials presented is repeated content from the 2018 in-person meeting.

Learning Objectives

The Continuing Medical Education mission of ASDP is to improve the overall quality of dermatopathology practiced by dermatopathologists, dermatologists and pathologists. The ASDP Essentials of Dermatopathology Online Board Review Course - Volume 2 primarily offers content in 1) medically accepted diagnostic approaches applicable to routine cases; 2) medical knowledge of established clinical, histologic, immunologic and molecular basis of dermatopathology.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Utilize new technology to assist with a wide variety of diagnoses and treatment methods.
  • Identify diseases of the nail unit and develop basic diagnostic skills in this special site.
  • Recognize critical elements that lead to the diagnosis of soft tissue, adnexal, melanocytic and lymphoid neoplasms of the skin.
  • Apply the most current diagnostic skills for hair-related inflammatory conditions.
  • Diagnose inflammatory skin conditions including connective tissue disease, granulomatous disease, panniculitis, drug reactions, immunobullous disease, spongiotic dermatoses and vasculitis.
  • Recognize and classify infectious diseases involving the skin.
  • Understand and discuss recent updates in the dermatopathology literature.
  • Utilize immunoperoxidase and molecular studies in dermatopathology diagnostics.
  • Improve skills in clinicopathologic correlation.
  • Understand and implement laboratory techniques and management.
