About the Elson B. Helwig Memorial Lecture
Originally called the "Special Guest Lecture," the ASDP Board of Directors approved an official name change to what is now known as the Elson B. Helwig Memorial Lecture to pay tribute to Dr. Helwig, who passed away on November 3, 1999. The Elson B. Helwig Memorial Lecture is intended to provide a clinically-oriented annual lectureship. The ASDP Program Committee nominates potential lecturers and topics.
The first Helwig Lecturer was David Weedon who spoke on "Looking Backwards, Thinking Forwards: A Polemic Perspective on Politics, Professionalism, and Dermatopathology" at the 37th Annual Meeting held in October 2000 in Baltimore, Maryland.

About the Hermann Pinkus Memorial Lecture
The Hermann Pinkus Memorial Lecture was established in 1986 to honor the late Hermann Pinkus for his lifetime of scientific contributions to the field of dermatopathology.
The official and formal purpose of the Pinkus Memorial Lecture is to nominate and select a basic scientist with an established record of research funding and preferably, but not necessarily, a non-member of the Society. The lecture shall be based on the rigorous, scientific nature of the lecture topic. The ASDP Committee on Peer Review nominates and votes on individuals who fit the criteria of the official and formal purpose of the lectureship.
