Overall Learning Objectives

The educational mission of the ASDP is to teach, aid in the dissemination of knowledge and encourage research to improve the quality of the practice of dermatopathology. The annual meeting is primarily an educational one, offering members, fellows, residents and medical students lectures on current topics in dermatopathology, interactive virtual microscopy sessions, a self-assessment course, and opportunities for poster and oral abstract presentations.

After attending the 2024 Annual Meeting, participants should be able to:

  • Distinguish clinical and histological features of complex, multi-system and/or rare disorders ‎involving skin.‎
  • Understand the history, applications, limitations, and future directions of immunohistochemistry in dermatopathology.
  • Differentiate clinical and histological features of alopecias.
  • Apply digital technologies to enhance diagnostic accuracy and efficiency in dermatopathology.
  • Identify atypical and emerging clinical and histologic presentations of inflammatory skin diseases and how to best utilize ancillary testing to improve diagnostic accuracy.
  • Outline how translational science discoveries have improved understanding and histologic diagnosis of skin diseases.
  • Implement quality improvement activities and effective communication techniques in dermatopathology laboratories.
  • Assess emerging molecular diagnostic technologies in the diagnosis of melanocytic and other tumors.
  • Appreciate pressing legislative, coding, and insurer updates affecting dermatopathologists.
  • Apply new techniques to improve wellness and avoid burnout in a dermatopathology practice.
