Physicians-in-Training Awards

These awards are given in conjunction with the ASDP Annual Meeting. Residents or fellows who are accepted for oral or poster presentations at the ASDP Annual Meeting, regardless of abstract category (General, Duel or Fellow Presentations) are eligible for the Physicians-In-Training Award. Physicians-in-Training Awards are presented to:

  • Top three (3) oral presentations
  • Top three (3) poster presentations
  • 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place in the Duel in Dermatopathology Resident Competition
  • Best Case Report and Best Study in the Fellows' Presentation

The Awards Committee will use the following criteria to evaluate presentations eligible for the Physicians-in-Training Awards:

  • Case reports will be judged on the following criteria:
    • novelty/teaching value
    • quality of description/workup
    • impact, potential to change practice
  • Studies will be judged on the following criteria:
    • conclusions supported by data
    • statistical design and analysis
    • impact, potential to change practice or influence future research
  • All presentations will also be judged on execution, taking into account:
    • quality of graphics and images
    • accuracy (data accuracy, typos)
    • clarity and quality of presentation

Residents and fellows who submit abstracts under the general abstract category should:

  • be the first author,
  • be presenter of the abstract, and
  • check the “eligible for physician-in-training” notification box when completing the abstract submission form. 
Abstracts that fail to meet the abstract submission criteria will be ineligible for a Physicians-in-Training Award.
