Get Involved with ASDP

ASDP offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for members at all stages of their careers.

Why volunteer?

  • Volunteers play an integral role in the strategic activities of the society and contribute to the decision-making process that helps shape ASDP.
  • Volunteers make connections with other volunteers and leaders in the profession, creating a powerful professional network.
  • Volunteerism demonstrates leadership, service and professional dedication.
  • Volunteers assist ASDP in achieving the Society's Mission, Value Premise and Vision.
  • Volunteer opportunities with ASDP are available exclusively to our members.

What is the process for appointing incoming volunteers?

Each January, ASDP holds a call for volunteers for terms commencing the following fall. All incoming volunteers are considered for appointment by the President-Elect and approved by the Board of Directors. Following the call for volunteers, the list of interested members is reviewed by President-Elect, who meticulously aligns individual members with open positions, taking into consideration members' expertise, skills and interests, and committees' charges. After open positions are filled, President-Elect with assistance from staff, confirms each member’s willingness to serve in appointed position(s), and after full slate is confirmed it is approved by the current Board of Directors. Incoming volunteers are notified after the slate is ratified by the Board of Directors. Unless noted otherwise, incoming volunteer terms commence during the next Annual Membership Business Meeting. While committee terms vary, majority of volunteer positions are a two-year commitment. Please refer to the Committee Volunteer Orientation Guide for individual committee term limits.
